The Orange Democratic Movement has recently made vital changes in its leadership following the resignation of part of the leaders who have landed more lucrative positions in the national government. The appointments and recent approval of; Wycliffe Oparanya as CS for Cooperatives & MSMEs, Hassan Joho as CS for Mining, Blue Economy & Maritime Affairs, John Mbadi as CS for Treasury and Opiyo Wandayi as CS for Energy left a gap to be filled by the remaining ODM members.
ODM Central Committee held a meeting to deliberate on the adjustments of leadership in the respective positions, National Chairman, Deputy Party Leadership, Secretary for Political Affairs and member of political parties’ elections coordinating committee. The meeting resolved to make recommendations to the National Executive Committee filling the vacancies left behind.
It was decided that; Hon Gladys Wanga takes over as the National Chairperson, Mombasa Governor Hon Abdulswamad Nassir takes the mantle from Joho as Deputy Party leader alongside Hon Simba Arati and Hon Godfrey Osotsi. Other recommendations are in place in respective positions of the party, according to the statement by the ODM Sec Gen Hon Edwin Sifuna.
The changes put in place will oversee the running of party activities, with the likes of Hon Wanga, Hon Nassir and Hon Arati who have time and again proved to have commendable track records in their administrations, as they get to have a shot in the ODM party leadership.
