Humphrey Katasi targets the Golden Glove after a strong start

In a 2025/26 season defined by tight margins, Humphrey Katasi has become a steady presence for AFC Leopards. The goalkeeper has already posted 10 clean sheets, meaning matches in which he has not conceded a goal. That total puts him top of the SportPesa League clean sheet chart and firmly in the Golden Glove conversation.

The race is close behind him. Job Ochieng and Stephen Otieno have nine clean sheets each. Allan Ngeleka, Byrne Omondi and Kevin Ouru follow with eight.

Humphrey Katasi sets the pace in a crowded race

Katasi’s lead is only two clean sheets, yet his consistency has stood out. In a league where one mistake can swing a result, his influence goes beyond the numbers.

Goalkeepers are often judged in moments. This season, Katasi has delivered those moments repeatedly, helping AFC Leopards manage games from the back.

A clear target, stated without hesitation

Katasi has not hidden his ambition. “I want to win the Golden Glove. That is my target this season, and I am working every day to ensure it happens,” he said.

That mindset shows in how he organises his defence and stays composed under pressure. He reads danger early, communicates constantly, and sets the tone for the players in front of him.

Why focus matters as much as technique

Katasi frames goalkeeping as a balance of body and mind. “Goalkeeping is 50 per cent physical and 50 per cent mental. One lapse in concentration can undo an entire match,” he explained.

That approach helps explain his steady output. A disciplined training routine, built around structure and repetition, underpins the reliability that keeps him ahead of his rivals.

Clean sheets are a team product

While he leads the chart, Katasi points to the collective. “Keeping a clean sheet is never just about the goalkeeper. It’s about the team defending together,” he said.

He also stressed his responsibility as the organiser at the back. “But as the last man, I have to organise everyone in front of me. If the defence is well-organised, the job becomes easier,” he added. That communication has made him a central figure inside the Leopards squad.

Fans fuel the momentum

Support has played its part, too. “When the fans chant my name, it gives me energy. I don’t want to let them down. I want to give them something to celebrate at the end of the season,” Katasi said.

For a goalkeeper, confidence is currency. Every save strengthens that bond with the stands, and every clean sheet reinforces belief across the team.

Respect for rivals, and the edge it brings

Katasi knows the gap can close quickly. “I respect every goalkeeper on that list — Job, Stephen, Allan. They are quality players,” he said.

He sees competition as a benefit. “Competition is healthy. It makes me sharper, more focused and hungrier,” he added. It is a professional view that treats rivals as both benchmarks and motivation.

From Kitale to the top level

Katasi was born in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, on July 24, 1999. He started goalkeeping at Limuru Youth Sports Association, featuring for the U10 and U15 sides.

In 2013, he joined Aspire Academy in Qatar. That same year, the St Anthony’s High School, Kitale alumnus earned a call-up to Kenya’s U20 team. He featured in AFCON qualifiers against Rwanda and in friendly matches against Senegal and Egypt.

Back home, he joined Nzoia Sugar FC and spent three seasons refining his game. A major milestone followed in the 2022/2023 season, when he won the Golden Glove after registering 17 clean sheets.

The run is strong, but the job is not finished

Katasi is not satisfied with early numbers. “Ten clean sheets is a good number, but it means nothing if I stop now. I want a number that nobody can argue with at the end of the season,” he said.

For AFC Leopards, his form is a stabilising force. In a league where defensive solidity can shape a campaign as much as attacking flair, a reliable goalkeeper can be decisive. If Katasi maintains his level and keeps adding clean sheets, he can claim individual recognition while strengthening Leopards’ push through the rest of the season.
