Prince Andrew Epstein files prompt UK police assessment after new document release

Britain’s Prince Andrew, also known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is facing renewed scrutiny after a newly released tranche of U.S. Justice Department documents connected to late financier Jeffrey Epstein included emails and photographs referencing him.

Thames Valley Police said it is assessing claims reported in the media following the release, which has fuelled fresh questions about Andrew’s continued association with Epstein after the American’s 2008 conviction in the United States for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Prince Andrew Epstein documents include emails and photographs

Among the material highlighted in reports are emails in which Andrew is said to have shared sensitive information connected to investment opportunities and official travel during his time as the UK’s trade envoy. Associated Press reported that the alleged material included details and itineraries from a 2010 diplomatic trade tour to Southeast Asia.

The Guardian and other outlets have also reported on emails from 2010 in which Epstein discussed facilitating contact between Andrew and a 26-year-old Russian woman in London. ITV News said it had spoken to the woman who corresponded with Epstein regarding the proposed meeting, after her email exchanges appeared in the newly released files.

The documents also include images described by media reports as showing Andrew with a woman whose face has been redacted. The published images have not provided clear context on when or where the photos were taken, and no identities have been confirmed in public reporting.

UK police say they are assessing fresh claims

Thames Valley Police, the force responsible for the Windsor area, said it was assessing the information that has emerged. The Guardian reported police were examining allegations linked to an encounter said to have taken place in 2010, and that the assessment was triggered by recent media reporting and the newly surfaced material.

Police have not announced any formal criminal investigation or charges.

Andrew has repeatedly denied wrongdoing

Andrew has long denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein. He has previously said he ended the relationship and has rejected allegations made by Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, which he denied before reaching a settlement with her in 2022.

The latest disclosures come after the U.S. Justice Department began releasing additional Epstein-related documents in late January, with media outlets describing the release as part of a larger, rolling publication process due to the volume of material and required redactions to protect victims’ privacy.

In a separate development on Monday, Reuters reported that Prince William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, said through a spokesperson that they were “deeply concerned” by the revelations in the newly released Epstein files, in a rare direct comment from senior royals on the issue.

The scrutiny over Andrew’s past ties to Epstein has persisted in the UK for years, and the latest document release has again put the association at the centre of public and official attention.
