Their white Haval SUV left the road at around 4am, crashed through a fence, and plunged into the crocodile-infested Crocodile River<\/strong> near Kamagugu. Nine days later, the last of the three bodies was finally pulled from the water. Now families are left with grief, unanswered questions, and a police investigation that has only just begun.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Witnesses watched the vehicle overshoot an intersection, break through a fence, and disappear into the river. They alerted police immediately. Rescuers arrived fast \u2014 but the river had already taken two lives.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n On the same day, the bodies of Vigo Godfrey (20)<\/strong> and Tintswalo Khoza (20)<\/strong> were recovered, along with the vehicle. But authorities initially believed only two people had been in the car. They were wrong.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n As police prepared to leave the scene, a second family arrived in a panic. Their son, Zenande Chiloane (21)<\/strong>, had been in that car. He hadn’t come home. His phone was off. And now he was somewhere in that river.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n What followed was a gruelling, nine-day operation involving SAPS divers, drone operators, a Department of Health helicopter<\/strong>, and two private security companies with specialist drone equipment. Teams combed the river daily, fighting current, crocodiles, and the psychological weight of what they were looking for.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n On 16 June<\/strong>, Chiloane’s body was found floating approximately three kilometres downstream<\/strong> from where the car had entered the water. His family identified him. The search was over. The pain was not.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Police have opened a case of culpable homicide<\/strong>. Spokesperson Jabu Ndubane<\/strong> confirmed: “The investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the incident.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n That’s the official line.
